The Rickshaw Theatre was built in 1970 by the Shaw Brothers, originally designed to screen Chinese-language Kung Fu movies. With the decline of the Downtown Eastside the theatre closed its doors to the public in the early 1980’s. The theatre remained vacant for over 20 years – brought back to life in late 2009 by owner David Duprey – creating a haven for the metal and punk rock scene. The Hastings Theatre underwent a minor face-lift courtesy of EXLE Contracting. We created a feature solid wood installation piece in the entryway of the space with live-edge spalted Beech. The wood installation is back-light with led strip lighting. Extraordinary League Contracting also hand-crafted custom bench seating with heritage Fir Timbers. Visit the Rickshaw’s new website for their schedule of upcoming shows. Just another custom woodworks project from the Extraordinary League Contracting team.
